MK vs Hamydgrey? Who Really Is The King Of Rap In Funaab

Hamydgrey or MK? We look at the qualities these two artistes possess that makes them one of the best.

Funaab King Of Rap

Several years ago, Rap music was very popular and one of the most populated genre in the music Industry. If you were an upcoming artiste, doing rap was like a VVIP entry to the music Industry. Just have nice punchlines and lyrics that hit well. You're good. Ask Olamide. He sang Eni Duro and straight off, he's already making it.

But now, rap is no longer a guarantee now. Ask Oladips or Davolee who have tankerloads of punchlines. They're still languishing in the relegation zone together with Ichaba and Dremo. However in Funaab, Rap is like the most populated genre. Almost every Funaab artiste is a rapper. From Phamos to Kjuni to Ashbrow. 80% of Funaab artistes are rappers. But over the years, the top two artistes who have distinguished themselves are Hamydgrey and MK Ooracle

These two have similarities though. MK and Hamydgrey are in the same level and also in the same college. And they hit it off from the start. Hamydgrey dropped "Jagaban", and at first it was a wack song but overtime, Jagaban became Funaab's anthem! From symposiums to seminars, Jagaban was always played and Hamydgrey was always called. Hamydgrey was a known sight at every symposium and it was due to the Jagaban Effect. Jagaban was an off-shoot from Ycee's Jagaban and Hamydgrey was able to synchronise every college and their peculiarities into one song. The lyrics changed it all for Hamydgrey. And everytime any student heard their college on the song, there was always a loud uproar.

MK became an household name due to his good rhyming skills and extraordinary ability with words. If MK decides to choose another career option, he should opt for Creative Arts 'cos man is just so creative with his words. Winning the MTN challenge in 2016 was a stepping stone for him and he has not disappointed his fans. From Unbeatable to King Of Rap, MK's versatility and rap prowess is just too strong. MK's major advantage over most rappers is the quality rap he dispenses through his wonderful word play. He has knowledge of words and rhyming sequence that you can never beat him to the game. Not so many rappers have this ability as most of Funaab rappers depend on punchlines to make their song hit! But MK's rap is relatable.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I'm the sheep(ship), we are on the same boat.

So all haters do is run like Usain Bolt"

That's mad.

Hamydgrey strength comes in its lyrics too. He gives the fans basically what they want. And Hamydgrey is a great performance on stage. It's like Davido performing at Eko Convention Centre and everyone screaming his name. That was how Hamydgrey performed at the GTCre8 concert. He lit up the stage with so much power and you could feel the energy he brought on. I repeat, Hamydgrey's kind of rare.

For me, Hamydgrey and MK are the top two Funaab rap artistes. No one has come close to them in creativity and meaningful rap. These two are Funaab's best bet to the music Industry. It's just a matter of time. But who is the best? We leave it for the fans to judge.
